The Earth is the home we all share - and yet, year after year for the last 150 years, more than 90% of the geoscience workforce has been white. The knowledge needed to solve today’s existential challenges of climate, energy and water demands a scientific discipline that reflects the racial, cultural and historical diversity of our nation and world. To solve these challenges, we must radically transform earth-learning environments.

In summer 2022, the Second National Conference assembled experts and leaders across a range of disciplines formed coalitions and generated transformative ideas for change. We worked to chart a collective course toward justice that is grounded in accountability, intentionality, innovation and the imaginary, and guided by the goals of broadening participation and advancing student success in geosciences and related disciplines.
